3 people have died after a gun man opened fire on a Tram in the Dutch city of Utrecht. Authorities has labeled the incident a terrorist attack and say the gun man, a 37 year old Turkish national, Gokmen Tanis is at large and had warned people not to approach him.
Currently, Tanis is being wanted by the authorities as man-hunt for him has begun spear-headed by the counter-terrorism unit. Schools have been shut down and security increased in the nearby areas the incident happened.
The attack on the tram occurred around 10.45 local time in which a witness described a man who suddenly opened fire shooting wildly at people. A house near the area of the attack has been surrounded by the counter-terrorism unit though no arrest has been made.
Threat level around the vicinity has been increased to its highest level following the attack. The Utrecht University has shutdown most of its buildings and trains are banned from entering into the city central station.
Utrecht is the fourth largest Dutch city with a population of around 340,000 with considerably low crime levels.
