Across the world, thousands of students have taken a day off to protest against climate change abandoning school activities. India, France, Australia and South Korea saw large throng of students taking to the street to protest. According to scientists, the world needs to establish tougher controls to curtail the extent of damage to the planet.
In 2017, about 200 countries participated in the Paris Climate Agreement and committed to keeping the global temperatures to levels below 2.0C (3.6F). Unfortunately some countries seem to take the agreement lightly and citizens across the world are beginning to be deeply worried about the environmental impact on their lives.
The students’ protests were inspired by Greta Thunberg’s weekly protests outside of the Swedish parliaments. Recently the student’s protest earned her a nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize. This year, the world met at Davos, Switzerland during the World Economic Forum where Greta told executives and politicians that the world need to accept the fact that it had failed in protecting the earth.
